First off, did you know the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! still exists? I sure as hell didn’t...I don’t even remember them announcing the refresh to make them carry the modern Acura corporate design language.
But aside from that, I decided to build one for shits and giggles and found an issue with how these can be spec’d.
I can’t get a non hybrid AWD RLX, literally it’s not possible. You either get the J35 with FWD, P-AWS, and a gearbox with 3 too many gears or you have to bump up 7k to get the hybrid drivetrain and AWD. Why isn’t there an option to just a AWD V6 RLX when you have that near exact drive train readily available.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Can you get a non AWD hybrid? It could be a motor driving the rear wheels

You know if I see one of these on the road or at a dealer I truly wonder how the unload them? There is literally not one compelling reason to buy one of these for the price they ask.

I think they use the hybrid’s electric motor to drive the rear wheels. The NSX is similar

How w ould they do the AWD without the hybrid?
Th e AWD system is strictly electric in the rear (twin electric motors).

I’ve never actually KNOWN that the RL existed. It just pops up once every couple of years to make me go “Huh. The RL is still around

It’s a fancy hotrod 8:7 scale 2013 Accord with a beak and a MSRP of 90% more than a new Accord. Who could resist?

As an Acura it makes no sense. As a Honda Legend, it’s perfect. It’s Honda’s Avalon that they never knew they should have.

The AWD RLX is actually very competitively priced for what you get, a 377 total system hp AWD full size luxury sedan, just happens to be upwards of $60k.

As I suspected, the V6 in the AWD system is not at all connected to the rear wheels. Instead, the front wheels get the V6 power and 1 elec tric motor, the rear wheels are only powered by 2 electric motors. Unfortunately many automakers are doing this. They make the AWD system and hybrid power-train seem like wonderfully powerful and effective engineering feats, when they’re really just the cheapest and most compact way to add AWD. The Lexus UX for example is only available with AWD in the Hybrid trim, because the electric motors are powering the rear wheels and not the engine. The woes of crap AWD systems and efficiency...

I want an Acura RLX, but having it badged as “Acura Legend” instead.
